SCOUT YOUTH LEADERSHIP POSITIONS

ELECTED POSITIONS: Troop elections are held at which time eligible 

Scouts may run for the following positions.

SENIOR PATROL LEADER: Presides over the Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) which is made up of the Senior Patrol Leader,  Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, the Patrol Leaders and the Scribe who assist the Senior Patrol Leader in running the Troop with the guidance of the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters.

ASSISTANT SENIOR PATROL LEADER: Works with the PLC to develop, plan, promote and manage the Troop program for weekly meetings and other activities. Works with PLC to develop, plan, promote and manage the Troop program for monthly (short-term) outings, summer/winter camp activities.

PATROL LEADERS: Elected by the  members of his patrol. The Patrol leader is responsible for implementing the Troop program developed by the SPL. Plan and lead patrol meetings and activities

Assign each patrol member a task and help them succeed

Represent the patrol at all patrol leaders' council meetings and the annual program planning conference

Prepare the patrol to take part in all troop activities

Show and help develop patrol spirit

Work with other troop leaders to make the troop run well

ASSISTANT PATROL LEADER work with the Patrol Leaders

SCRIBE: Keeps minutes of the Troop meetings, conducts uniform |inspections, collect fees and funds, writes thank you letters and maintains the Troop advancement board.

Responsible to: Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (and works with troop committee members)

Attend and keep a log of patrol leaders' council meetings

Record attendance and dues payments of all troop members

Record advancement in troop records and on Troop/Team Advancement chart

Work with appropriate troop committee members responsible for finance, records, and advancement

HISTORIAN: Records the history of the Troop activities and maintains the Troop scrapbook/photo albums

Responsible to: Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

Gather pictures and facts about past activities of the troop and keep them in scrapbooks, wall displays or information files

Take care of troop trophies and keepsakes

Keep information about troop alumni

Set a good example

QUARTERMASTER: Responsible for instructing Scouts in the proper use of equipment and maintaining an inventory of Troop equipment stored in the scout shed.

Responsible to: Assistant Senior Patrol Leader 

Keep records of patrol and troop equipment

Keep equipment in good repair

Keep equipment storage area neat and clean

Issue equipment and see that it is returned in good order

Suggest new or replacement items

Work with troop committee member responsible for equipment

Set a good example

LIBRARIAN: Maintains and issues books and merit badge pamphlets from the Troop Library. Suggests new books to purchase and add to the Troop Library.

Responsible to: Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

Establish and maintain a troop library

Keep records on literature owned by the troop

Add new or replacement items as needed

Have literature available for borrowing at troop meetings

Follow up on late returns

Set a good example

APPOINTED POSITIONS: The Scoutmaster, in conjunction with the Senior Patrol Leader, appoints a scout to the following positions dependent upon rank, seniority, maturity, skills/ability and interest.

DEN CHIEF: assists in a cub scout den and is a mentor to the younger scouts. Your den leader or Cubmaster will provide additional guidelines for your position. Recommended: Den Chief Training and Den Chief Handbook

Responsible to Assistant Scoutmaster of a new-Scout patrol

Serve as the activities assistant at den meetings

Meet regularly with the den leader to review the den and pack meeting plans

If serving as a Webelos den chief: help prepare the boys to join Boy Scouting

INSTRUCTORS: Plan, teach and test Troop members on specific Scouting skills.

Responsible to Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

O/A REPRESENTATIVE: Acts as a liaison between the Troop and the Order of the Arrow. Promotes Troop camping and cheerful service.

OA member in good standing

Serve as a communication link between the lodge or chapter and the troop/team

Encourage year-round and resident camping in the troop/team

Encourage older-Scout participation in high-adventure programs

Encourage Scouts to actively participate in community service projects

Assist with leadership skills training in the troop/team

Encourage Arrowmen to assume leadership positions within the troop/team

Encourage Arrowmen in the troop/team to be active participants in lodge and/or chapter activities and to seal their membership in the Order by becoming Brotherhood members
